About Women Who Code Accra

Like it or not, technology has changed and keeps changing the way we do things. From tracking your period to teaching your children how to read to learning how to cook, there's an app for almost everything these days. Apart from that, we use softwares for many other things....from analyzing your data as an undergraduate or graduate student to the softwares used by various companies.  And yet, tech roles are still dominated by males....in Ghana people still exclaim in awe when they hear a girl is studying a technology related programme. These factors present a big challenge....because for this cycle to change, girls and other young women should see other women in tech related roles so they can also aspire and even excel in tech related roles.

This is where Women Who Code (WWC) comes in. WWC is an international network of women that aims to provide support and other resources needed to help women excel in tech. It's not about feminism....it's just about supporting each other and collaborating in the ways women do best.

Thankfully, although the headquarters is in the USA, you don't need to travel all the way there before you can join this wonderful network of women. There's one right here in Accra and another one soon to be started in Kumasi.

Search for us on Meet up and become part of this family. There's something for everyone. Some days, you will find us learning Python (not the snake...lol), other days we'll be doing Java. Some other days we will learn R. On some other days too, you'll find us discussing how to navigate the corporate landscape and how to "Excel in our careers".  We usually meet at Impact Hub Accra or at Soronko academy.

So whether you're a student who needs to learn a software to help you analyze your data or you're the girl who needs to design her own app for tracking her periods since nothing else seems to work or you're the Computer Science student who wants to know more about the softwares your are learning or you're the Sunday School teacher looking for an app to teach Sunday School with, we're here for you.

Come and join us....don't be shy. We'd be thrilled to have you.
